When Should You Transfer Your Domain?

You might want to transfer a domain when:

• Your current registrar is expensive and renewal fees are climbing

• You bought a domain that is registered at a third party and want it under your control

How to Transfer a .co.za Domain

.co.za domains (and other ZARC-managed domains like .org.za, .net.za, .co.za) are managed by the ZA Central Registry (ZARC). The transfer process is slightly different from international TLDs like .com.

Step 1: Get the AuthCode from Your Current Registrar

Log in to your current registrar (Domains.co.za, Web.com, GoDaddy, etc.) and look for the AuthCode, EPP code or Transfer code for your domain. This is usually found in the domain management settings. If you cannot find it, contact your registrar and ask specifically for the "domain transfer AuthCode".

Step 2: Make Sure the Domain is Unlocked

Many registrars lock domains to prevent accidental or unauthorised transfers. Find the Transfer Lock or Domain Lock setting for your domain and switch it off. The lock must be disabled for the transfer to proceed.

Step 3: Initiate the Transfer at HostGridPro™

Log in to your HostGridPro™ client portal at billing.hostgridpro.co.za. Go to Domains → Transfer Domain. Enter your domain name and the AuthCode from Step 1. The current renewal date of your domain is extended by one year at no extra cost when the transfer completes.

Step 4: Approve the Transfer

You (as the registered domain owner) will receive an email from ZARC (or from your old registrar for .com/.net domains) asking you to approve the transfer. Click the approval link in the email. If you do not approve within 5 days, the transfer expires and you will need to initiate it again.

Step 5: Wait for the Transfer to Complete

.co.za domain transfers typically complete within 24–72 hours of approval. International domain transfers (.com, .net, .org) can take up to 7 days. During this entire time, your website and email continue working normally — the DNS stays at the old registrar until the transfer is done.

After the Transfer: Update Your DNS

Once the transfer is confirmed complete (you will receive an email), you can update your DNS to point at HostGridPro™ servers. Only do this after the transfer is fully confirmed — not before.
